Bathroom water damage
Toilet & Sink Overflow Cleanup in Atlanta, GA
An overflow can soak a bathroom floor and reach the ceiling below in minutes. We clean it up the right way for the water and dry what you cannot reach.

Bathroom water moves fast and goes down. An overflowing toilet, a failed supply line or a sink left running finds every gap in the tile and grout, soaks the subfloor and the vanity base, and shows up as a stain or drip in the room underneath. One customer came home late from a trip to find a toilet had leaked through two floors. Toilet and sink overflow cleanup in Atlanta starts with knowing what kind of water you have, because that decides how it gets cleaned.
Clean supply water is a drying job. Water from a toilet bowl is gray at best, and if it carried waste it is Category 3, which we handle as sewage cleanup: protective gear, removal of soaked porous materials and disinfection. Either way, we check behind the toilet, under the vanity, around the tub and in the ceiling below with meters and thermal imaging, so we open only the spots that need it.
If the cause is a fill valve, wax ring or supply line, a plumber fixes the source and we can recommend one. We handle the water damage, photograph everything and log moisture readings every visit. If the ceiling below has to be opened or the vanity pulled, we coordinate the repair trades once it is dry, and your carrier gets an itemized estimate in the format it already uses. Call us if you notice
- Water around the base of the toilet after flushing
- A stain or drip in the ceiling under a bathroom
- Loose or cracked floor tile, or grout that stays dark
- A swollen vanity bottom or a musty sink cabinet
- A toilet that rocks, or a floor that never seems to dry
- Water that reached carpet or flooring outside the bathroom door
Right now, if it's safe
- Turn the valve behind the toilet clockwise to stop the water. For a sink, close the valves under the basin.
- Do not flush again or run nearby drains until the clog or failed part is found.
- If the water came from the bowl, wear gloves and shoes you can wash, and keep kids and pets out.
- If the ceiling below sags or drips near a light, turn off that circuit at the breaker and stay clear.
- Bag soaked bath mats and towels, and photograph the floor and ceiling before cleanup starts.
How we handle toilet & sink overflow cleanup
- 01
Identify the water
We confirm whether it came from the supply line, the tank or the bowl. Bowl water gets gray or black water handling, not just drying.
- 02
Extract and clean
Standing water is extracted, and surfaces touched by bowl water are cleaned and treated with an antimicrobial.
- 03
Read under the tile
Meters and thermal imaging check the subfloor, wall cavities and ceiling below, where bathroom water collects.
- 04
Open only wet areas
If the ceiling below holds water or the vanity is soaked, we remove just those sections so the cavity can dry.
- 05
Dry and document
Air movers and dehumidifiers run until readings are dry. You and your adjuster get the photos and logs.

I had a great experience with Mitigate First. They were professional, responsive, and easy to work with throughout the process. It’s not always easy to find a company you can trust when dealing with water damage, but they made the experience much less stressful. I really appreciate their hard work and would definitely recommend them to anyone in need of their services
Called Mitigate First for a flood restoration job and they were on-site fast, walked me through exactly what needed to happen, and had the water out and the space dried properly without any surprises. Pricing was fair and clear up front — no padding, no change orders. Would use them again and already have them saved as my go-to.
Had a leak in my bathroom, and Mitigate First came out immediately and was great! Levi and Moysh were awesome! They are super knowledgeable and professional, and helped me through the whole process. Definitely recommend!
Questions
Toilet & Sink Overflow Cleanup FAQ
Is water from an overflowing toilet a health risk?
Water that came out of the bowl can carry bacteria even if it looked clear, and water with waste in it is Category 3. Avoid touching it, wear gloves and keep children and pets away. We clean and disinfect affected surfaces and remove porous materials that soaked it up.
Will the ceiling under my bathroom need to come down?
Only if it is holding water, sagging, or the insulation above it is soaked. Drywall that got wet briefly can often be dried in place. We read the ceiling with a meter and thermal camera before we cut anything.
Does insurance cover toilet overflow damage in Atlanta?
A sudden overflow or supply line failure is often treated differently from a wax ring that leaked slowly for months. Coverage depends on your policy and the cause. We document the source, the extent and the drying, and can work directly with your carrier.
Can we still use the bathroom?
Not until the cause is fixed and contaminated areas are cleaned. Other bathrooms are usually fine as long as they are not on the same blocked line. We will tell you what is safe to use.
What if it has been leaking for a while?
Then the subfloor around the toilet may be soft, and there may be mold under the vanity or behind the tile. We check for both. If we find mold, we contain the area and remove it as part of the same job.
