Our process

How we handle storm damage

  1. 01

    Secure the opening

We coordinate emergency tarping, board-up and tree removal so no more rain gets into the house.

  2. 02

    Document the damage

Before cleanup, we photograph the roof, the openings and every wet room for your claim.

  3. 03

    Extract and remove

Standing water is extracted, and soaked insulation, drywall and pad come out where they cannot be dried.

  4. 04

    Dry the structure

Air movers and dehumidifiers dry framing, subfloor and walls, tracked with moisture readings every visit.

  5. 05

    Coordinate repairs

Once it is dry, we coordinate roofing, window and drywall trades for the rebuild.

What we handle

  • Trees or large limbs on the roof or through the ceiling
  • Rain coming in around windows, doors or skylights
  • Wet attic insulation or new ceiling stains after a storm
  • Hail or wind damage that let water into the house
  • Flooded lower levels or crawlspaces after heavy rain
  • Tarping and board-up coordination for roofs and windows

Right now, if it's safe

  1. Stay away from downed power lines and report them to your power company. Treat every line as live.
  2. Do not enter rooms where a tree came through the roof or the ceiling is sagging.
  3. Photograph the outside and inside damage before anything is moved or covered.
  4. Move furniture and electronics away from leaks and catch drips in buckets if you can do it safely.
  5. Do not climb onto the roof to tarp it yourself. Call us and we will coordinate it.

We had a backed up drain cause flooding in our home on a Sunday, and Mitigate First was at our house within a few hours of calling. They were fast, professional, and did a great job of explaining to us what needed to be done and executing the work quickly.

Mitigate First was hands down the smoothest, fastest, and most professional company I’ve ever worked with.

From the moment I reached out, Moshe was quick to act. He came out promptly, did a thorough inspection, took all the right photos, and documented everything exactly the way the insurance company required — no guesswork, no missing pieces. His itemized estimate was prepared in the same estimating system the insurance carrier uses, which made the review process seamless and kept everything aligned from the start.

What really stood out was his knowledge of how insurance claims actually work. He reviewed the policy, understood the coverage language, and knew precisely how to document the loss so it matched what the carrier looks for. Nothing was exaggerated, nothing was omitted — it was accurate, professional, and done at a very high level.

Communication was excellent throughout. I was kept informed every step of the way, often multiple times a day, and he genuinely listened to my concerns. I never felt rushed or talked over, and every question was answered clearly and patiently.

Before finding Mitigate First, we worked with another contractor and quickly realized we were being forced to guide them through what the insurance company needed — which should never be the homeowner’s job. The difference with Mitigate First was night and day. Moshe knew exactly what to do, handled it confidently, and didn’t leave anything undone.

Update to the work done today: Today’s mitigation work with Mitigate First went extremely smoothly, and I want to specifically recognize the crew and Levi’s leadership on site.

Levi took the time to walk my husband through exactly what was going to be done before work began, which immediately set the tone and built confidence. The team was efficient, well-coordinated, and clearly experienced — there were enough people working together to keep things moving without chaos or confusion.

The work itself was fast but careful. Everything was neat, organized, and well protected. They were respectful of our home, mindful of chemical sensitivities and fragrances, and very intentional about how materials were handled and removed. Nothing felt rushed or careless.

It was obvious the crew knew what they were doing and worked well together. Levi was hands-on, communicative, and very contractor-oriented, with strong technical knowledge and a calm, professional approach throughout the process.

This was a stressful situation going in, but today’s work was handled with professionalism and care from start to finish. We felt informed, respected, and confident the job was being done correctly. Highly recommend Mitigate First based on both their management and their on-site execution.

In detail

Storm damage cleanup in Atlanta, start to finish

Atlanta storms hit hard and fast. A summer thunderstorm or microburst drops a pine or oak onto the roof, rips shingles loose or blows a window in, and then the rain keeps coming through the opening. Wind-driven rain can also push water under flashing and siding with no visible hole at all. Storm damage cleanup in Atlanta is two jobs at once: closing the house up, and getting the water out of the attic, ceilings and walls before it spreads.

We coordinate emergency tarping, board-up and tree removal with roofers and tree crews we trust, so the structure is protected while the claim gets started. Inside, we do the water work ourselves: extraction, removal of soaked insulation and drywall, and drying with air movers and dehumidifiers. Thermal imaging finds water that ran along the framing far from where it came in. Our crews also run hurricane response trips outside Georgia, so large storm losses are familiar ground. More on water mitigation.

After a big storm, every contractor in town is busy and some go door to door. Before you sign anything, call a local company with an office you can visit. We photograph the damage before cleanup, keep moisture logs and write an itemized estimate in the format carriers use. Coverage depends on your policy, the cause and your deductible. Read about insurance claims or our emergency guide.

Questions

Storm Damage Cleanup FAQ

Do you remove trees from the house?

We coordinate with tree crews to get the tree off the structure safely, and with roofers for tarping. Our part is the water mitigation inside and the documentation. One call to us gets the whole sequence moving.

Does insurance cover storm damage in Atlanta?

Wind, hail and falling trees are covered under many homeowner policies, but deductibles and exclusions vary, and some policies carry a separate wind or hail deductible. Rising floodwater usually needs separate flood coverage. We document everything so your carrier has what it needs.

How fast do I need to act after storm water gets inside?

Right away. Wet insulation and drywall in Atlanta humidity can start supporting mold within 24 to 48 hours. Most policies also expect you to take reasonable steps to prevent further damage, like tarping and drying.

Should I hire a contractor who knocks on my door after a storm?

Be careful. Out-of-town storm crews can disappear when the work slows down. Look for a local address, IICRC certification and real reviews, and read everything before you sign. We are happy to look at your damage and give you an honest scope at no charge.

My roof looks fine but my ceiling is stained. Could it be storm damage?

It can be. Wind-driven rain gets under shingles, flashing and siding without leaving an obvious hole. We check the attic and the wet area with meters and thermal imaging, and can recommend a roofer to inspect the outside.
